Drug mece: Five more held

Guwahati, May 9: Five more persons, including two girls, were caught by police in Guwahati on Monday as raids against drug addicts and peddlers continued in the capital city.

Two drug peddlers - Murshid Alam Laskar of Hailakandi and Izaz Ahmed of Baghorbari - were arrested by Dispur police from near the MLA Hostel. Two packets containing 25 gms of suspected powder were seized from Laskar.

At Rudragar in Krishgar of Chandmari, a couple - Tinku Biswas and Monika Roy - was caught while buying rcotics substances from an unidentified peddler who, however, maged to flee. Some suspected rcotics were found from the couple's possession.

Locals at Pandu chased down three drug addicts, including a woman, on the banks of the Brahmaputra and handed them over to a battalion camp located nearby. But due to negligence of the battalion personnel, the two men fled from the camp. The fleeing woman - Purnima Chakraborty of New Colony - was again caught by the locals.
