Dutta endures more grilling

SARADHA SCAM

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 27: Assam Congress president Anjan Dutta was interrogated by the CBI for the second consecutive day today in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.

Dutta, a former State minister, entered the CBI's Kolkata office at CGO complex at around 10.30 am on Friday. He was questioned for nearly three hours.

Coming out of the CBI office, Dutta said that he was asked to furnish documents related to his business transaction with Saradha.

He was grilled for over three hours by the investigating agency yesterday as well.

This is for the third time that the MLA from Amguri is being interrogated by the CBI. He was earlier questioned on November 24 last.

The printing press owned by Dutta used to print a Bengali newspaper and other materials for jailed Saradha promoter and purported chit fund scam kingpin Sudipta Sen.

The CBI had earlier searched the residence of Dutta who claimed that he too was a “victim” of the scam as he was given cheques by Saradha which later bounced.

CBI sources said that former minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also likely to be interrogated again. Sarma, however, today denied getting any fresh summons.

The Enforcement Directorate is also likely to question some who’s who in Assam, including some jourlists, in connection with the Saradha scam soon, the sources said.
