EC not neutral, searching only Congressmen: Gogoi

By Our Staff Reporter
Guwahati, April 7:  Alleging that only Congress party members were being searched and checked by Election Commission-appointed surveillance teams, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today cast doubts on the "neutrality" of the commission. "I have grievances against the Election Commission. I doubt their neutrality. They are searching only Congress people," he said. Alleging that BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma had distributed money even in his home district Jorhat, Gogoi said the EC has given "a free hand" to such people. "Some officers (of the EC) are being influenced," he alleged. During the 2011 assembly elections, Gogoi had protested when the Election Commission had objected to government officers "assisting" him during the campaign period.
