Education boards to hold brainstorming session on exam goof-ups

COBSE CONFERENCE

GUWAHATI, May 28: Experts and officials from more than 50 education boards, including the CBSE and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE), will assemble in the city here to hold a brainstorming session to jointly formulate a strategy to stop the menace of question paper leakage across the country.

Representatives of nearly 60 education boards will jointly formulate strategies to prevent exam goof-ups during the upcoming annual conference of the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) scheduled to be held in the city in November this year.

“The strategies to prevent question paper leakage will be chalked out during the ensuing annual conference of COBSE to be organized by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) in the city from November 15 to 17. The need of integrity in conducting examinations will be the theme on which a brainstorming session will be held for chalking out plans to initiate reforms in the examination process,” AHSEC secretary Kamal Jyoti Gogoi said.

Most of the education boards in the country, including CBSE and SEBA, are faced with public criticism following incidents of question paper leakages in the recent examinations.

The COBSE provides a common platform for mutual consultation to reinforce the quality of school education. It provides support to its member boards across the country to bring about changes in various fields, including examination reforms.

The national-level conference, to be held at the Assam Administrative Staff College here, will also see participation of representatives of the member education boards of COBSE from Mauritius, Bhutan and Nepal.

A SEBA official said the problem of integrity pertaining to various stakeholders of the examination process, especially after the reported question paper leakage in CBSE this year, will be discussed at the meet. He said the SEBA will also offer various suggestions including working out a uniform evaluation methodology in Class X and XII final so that students do not suffer due to different systems adopted by boards to allot marks.
