Educationist Krish Kumar Bora passes away

GUWAHATI, June 20: Eminent educationist Krish Kumar Bora passed away today morning at GNRC, Dispur where he was admitted on Wednesday after suffering a stroke. He was 84. Born at Safrai in Sivasagar in 1932, he taught as Professor, department of Chemistry in Cotton College for 17 years. He then served in various key capacities including Director of Primary Education, Secretary of Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA), Chairman of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Chairman of Gyan-Vigyan Samiti Assam and honorable Member of Education Reforms Commission constituted by the Assam government in 1993. He was a leading light in the movement for quality teaching in mother tongue, serving as the first Academic Director of Asom Jatiya Vidyalaya. Professor KK Bora was one of the petitioners whose PIL in the Gauhati High Court against the SCERT’s move for literal translation of NCERT textbooks, paved the way for the teaching of topics related to Assam to school students.
