Even HC order no succor for divyang youths

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, June 22: Despite being armed with a High Court order, a group of divyang (differently-abled) youths are still running from pillar to post to get a government a job.

The Gauhati High Court had in April 23 last year given four months’ time to Assam government to provide jobs to the 113 petitioners, who had been deprived since long. Divyang people have a quota of not less than 3 per cent in government jobs.

The previous Congress government did little to implement the HC order.

The State’s Health department had decided to appoint 55 of the 113 youths – eight in category III jobs and the rest in category IV posts.

The Health department had sent the file to the Fince department, which, however, returned it with some queries. Health department officials are now sitting on the file.

Meanwhile, some of the 113 youths are on the verge of crossing age limits for recruitment into government jobs.
