'Fast food threat' alarming in city

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, March 15: Fast food shops near roadsides in Guwahati pose a serious threat to the people of Guwahati, especially the teens. Most of such eateries leave their food without any coverings, exposing the food to dust. Even there are eateries above drains covered with wooden planks. And this is going on in the city under the very nose of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies and Health. The GMC is also collecting tax from such eateries with scant regard to public health. Senior medicine specialist Dr JK Baruah said: “Such food may damage the intestine, pancreas and the liver, besides creating aerological problems. Such foods also have their telling effects on eyes. Teens may suffer from high cholesterol, fat deposits if they are used to such fast food.”
