Fight ture at your own peril'

GUWAHATI, March 1: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called for sustaible development and preservation of the environment while addressing the 36th Indian Geographers’ Meet 2015 and the Intertiol Semir on Environmental Changes and Challenges held here.

Expressing serious concern over the growing conflict between man and ture, Gogoi said conflicts can be resolved through peaceful co-existence. “All living beings on earth can co-exist peacefully and commune with ture. Conflicts with ture will lead to disaster and put our very survival at stake,” he warned. Stressing on conservation of wetlands, forests, hills and water bodies, the Chief Minister said, “In the wake of global warming due to wanton destruction of tural resources, there is an urgent need to arrest this dangerous trend and make judicious use of tural resources for sustaible economic development.”

Gogoi called for proper scientific studies and participation of people in awareness programmes for effective conservation of tural resources.

He also called for using clean, green and renewable energy to contain the severe problem of pollution, as well as land degradation due to excessive use of chemical fertilisers.
