Former cricketer arrested with contraband drugs

Guwahati, Oct 29: CID sleuths today arrested a former State cricketer and seized several bottles of contraband cough syrup from his possession. Official sources said Chinmoy Baruah was under surveillance since the last few days. He was arrested today while he was coming out of Nehru Stadium in a scooter at around 12.30 pm. Another person, Manzur Ali, who was with him was also arrested. Fifteen bottles of contraband cough syrup was seized from his possession. Chinmoy (44) is currently the treasurer of Ankujyoti Club. He had represented Assam in a one-day Vijay Hazare match in the 1997-1998 season against Odisha in which he bagged the man of the match award. But he never played again. Sources said he had brought the cough syrup for selling. Chinmoy was also under scrutiny when a member of the Ankurjyoti club was murdered some months back.
