Guwahati, May 25: Close on the heels of the decision taken during the first cabinet meeting of the BJP-led alliance government to abolish all check-gates which "have become a hub of syndicates", the State's Excise department ordered closure of four check-gates it was operating at Srirampur, Buxirhat, Khapara and Suraibari. Official sources said that after ordering closure of the check-gates, the Excise department is in the process of proposing an "altertive arrangement" to the State government. "We are exploring ways to do without check-gates," said the sources. The personnel at the four check-gates have been asked to operate as flying squads.
