'Four new bridges over Brahmaputra'

GUWAHATI, Feb 23: Assam will soon get four new bridges over the mighty Brahmaputra. This was informed by Union Minister of State and BJP State president Sarbanda Sonowal while addressing a press meet in Guwahati on Monday.

Sonowal who was briefing the media on the upcoming visit of Union minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, also said that the long delayed Bogibeel project over Brahmaputra will be completed by 2017 and a sum of Rs 500 crores has been sanctioned to speed up the work.

Gadkari will be visiting the State on Feb 27.

Stating that the NDA government at the Centre is laying more emphasis on connectivity in the region, Sonowal said that Gadkari will iugurate the tiol Highway Bypass in Moran, will announce the construction of a bridge connecting Dhakuakha and Dichangmukh, followed by declaration of the KB Road connecting Dichangmukh via Lakhimpur to Kamalabari as tiol Highway. Gadkari will also lay the foundation stone for the bridge connecting Jorhat and Majuli and lay the foundation stone of 4-lane highway between gaon and Rangapara, and a Ship Repairing Centre in Pandu.

The four bridges that will soon come up in the State are - Luit Khabalu bridge over Brahmaputra connecting Jorhat-Majuli-Lakhimpur, Tekelifuta bridge connecting Dhakuakha and Dichangmukh, one bridge in Tezpur connecting gaon and Rangapara and another in Gohpur connecting the town with Numaligarh. Sonowal said that the first two bridges will be announced by Gadkari on Feb 27.

Meanwhile, calling for strengthening both the sides of the river Brahmaputra in order to enhance the development of the region, Sonowal requested the people to cooperate and support the Union government in order to complete the projects on time.
