Four officials suspended for negligence of duty

GUWAHATI, July 29: At the directive of Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, the Water Resources Department has suspended four officials for exhibiting gross negligence of duty during the current wave of flood in Majuli. An order to this effect has been brought out by the Secretary, Water Resources Department today.

Hari Prasad Gogoi, Junior Engineer, Jibon Khatoniar, Sub Engineer, Jayanti Mudoi, Section Assistant and Bedanto Kumar Bhuyan, Section Assistant have been suspended pending drawal of departmental proceedings on the charge that they were found absent at the site, at the time of occurrence of breach of a dyke stretching from Bessamora to Haldibari under Majuli Water Resources Department. Show cause notices have been issued to Buddhi th Shyam, Executive Engineer, Majuli Water Resources Division and Babul Chandra Deori, Assistant Executive Engineer, Kamalabari Water Resources Sub-Division.

It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister during his visit to Majuli yesterday along with the Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta to supervise the relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas took serious note on the uuthorised absence and negligence of duties of some officials.
