GUWAHATI, Oct 17: Alleging that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has failed in all aspects, State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Saturday urged the Chief Minister to resign, taking moral responsibility.

Addressing a press conference at ITA Machkhowa, the State BJP president along with tiol secretary of the party and Assam observer Mahendra Singh, slammed the Congress government and alleged that law and order situation has deteriorated manifold under Tarun Gogoi's watch.

"The law and order situation in the State is pathetic, crime rates are going up, but still the Chief Minister is in carefree mood. Being also the Home minister, he (Tarun Gogoi) should ensure a peaceful environment, but he has failed," Bhattacharya alleged.

He further said, "This government is a failed government, they have forgotten their responsibilities towards the people of the State. They came to power promising peace and harmony and gave assurance through 'Raijor Podulit Raijor Sarkar' that this government will be at the doorstep of the common people. But now, the opposite is happening. People are made to line up at the doors of the government."

On the Chief Minister's week-long medical check-up in Mumbai, the BJP president said, "Our good wishes are with him. We wish him good health, but being a responsible person while going for medical check-up, he should have entrusted the responsibilities of the Chief Minister on someone else. The situation is bad enough in the State and leaving it headless is a serious matter."

On being asked about some writers returning their Sahitya Akademi awards, Bhattacharya, without taking any mes, said, "More than 400 writers have won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award till date, but those who are now returning the awards are more inclined towards the Left and some are still into Left activism. Where were they when religious institutions of Assam like the xatras were being looted by unidentified miscreants?"

Meanwhile, alleging that BJP supporters in the State are being attacked, Mahendra Singh warned, "We will not tolerate this anymore. We know how to respond."
