Gogoi betraying tiol cause: BJP

BY Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, June 25: The BJP today accused Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of renouncing "tiol cause" while working to further the interests of his party.

"The Chief Minister's proposal to include all persons whose mes appeared in the electoral rolls into the tiol Register of Citizens (NRC) is an anti-Assamese one. We vehemently oppose it," State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharjee said.

Bhattacharjee said the CM has his eye on the 2016 Assembly elections and as such is keen on mobilizing the Bangladeshi bloc votes. “His purported decision goes against the Constitution and the Supreme Court,” the BJP leader said.

Union minister Sarbanda Sonowal said the BJP is with the people of Assam. “If the BJP is voted to power in the Assembly elections, we will ensure the safety and security of the 3.21 crore people of the State,” Sonowal said.

He also charged the State government with failing to properly utilize the funds and schemes sanctioned by the Central government. “That is why it is uble to give utilization certificates. The Congress government has failed even to fulfill its minimum responsibilities,” Sonowal said.

When asked as to why only one town (Tinsukia) was included in the Smart City project by the Centre, Sonowal said the State government did not give the required proposals on time.
