Gogoi demands 'report card' from Sonowal

Guwahati, Nov 2: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today launched a fresh attack on Sarbanda Sonowal, asking him to make public whatever he has done for Assam in the last one-and-half years as a Union Minister.

“Despite being given such an important portfolio, Sonowal has failed to do anything worthwhile for his own State. There’s a lot to be done for the youths of the State. But we have never seen Sonowal giving importance upon this subject. He is just indulging in political manouvering,” Gogoi said.

The Chief Minister said that when Sonowal was inducted as a Central minister, the people of Assam had “great expectations” from him. “But all hopes have been dashed now,” Gogoi said, accusing Sonowal of endorsing anti-Assam policies of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

He asked Sonowal to take up with the Central government issues concerning the State like floods and erosion, “instead of wasting his time criticizing the State government.”

Taking a dig at the BJP, Gogoi also said the party did not have “influential leaders” in the State and so it is roping in leaders from other political parties and organizations. “They are even inducting ULFA, SULFA and DHD men to run the party. In fact, Mahendra Singh, who is not from the State, is running the State unit,” Gogoi said.
