Gogoi: Saddened, but not disheartened

Guwahati, May 19: Accepting defeat, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said though it is tural to feel "sad" for the electoral reverse, yet he has not lost heart.

"It is only tural to feel bad about the result but I am not disheartened. In democracy, one has to accept the people's verdict and we accept it. I have seen many ups and downs in my life, be it in tiol politics or in Assam. It is a part of politics, or for that matter, life itself," Gogoi said.

He said the Congress will try its best to play the role of a constructive opposition.

Reiterating that he will continue to be active in politics, Gogoi said, "We accept the mandate of the people. I thank the people of Assam for giving us three terms to serve them. Now the people want us to sit in opposition and play a constructive there and I thank the people for that."

"I am thankful to the people that they have not abandoned the Congress entirely. Maybe there were some shortcomings on our part or maybe the people expected more from us than we delivered," he said.

Gogoi said that he had already congratulated Sarbanda Sonowal for the victory. "It is a grand success for them. The BJP, the AGP and the BPF came together this time and won the polls. Credit goes to them," he said.

The chief minister said the Congress is going to alyze the shortcomings and deficiencies in the party and the factors that led the BJP and its allies to victory.
