Governor, CM & others extend Holi greetings

The Governor of Assam has declared March 2 as a ‘Local Holiday’ within the jurisdiction of Kamrup (M) on account of Dol Jatra.

GUWAHATI, Feb 28: Assam Governor (Prof) Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal have greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Holi. The Governor said that the festival of colours marks the onset of warmer season and victory of good forces over the bad ones. In a message Prof Mukhi said, “I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Assam in particular and the country in general on the auspicious occasion of Holi – the festival of colours. May this festival bring peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness in our lives.” Prof Mukhi also said the colours of Holi reflect the State’s diversity and multi-cultural heritage. “I hope the festival becomes a harbinger of joy, happiness and merriment for all cutting across all caste, creed and ethnicity”, the Governor added. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sonowal in a separate messages said: “Hope celebrations of the festival of colours strengthen our age-old bonhomie, universal brotherhood and camaraderie among all sections of the people of Assam. On this occasion let us all forget all our differences, embrace and spread the message of unity to make our state even stronger”. Celebrations of Holi will further strengthen the socio-cultural edifice of the State, Sonowal added. Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, AGP president and Minister Atul Bora, BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass, former Chief Ministers Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Tarun Gogoi and others also greeted the people on the occasion of Holi.
