Governor conveys best wishes on Ambubachi

GUWAHATI, June 21: Governor of Assam PB Acharya today greeted the people, devotees and pilgrims on the auspicious occasion of Ambubachi Mela at Maa Kamakhya Dham beginning from June 22 and slated to end on June 26.

Ambubachi Mela, also known as Ambubasi festival, is held annually during monsoon in the month of 'Ahaar' in the Kamakhya Devi Temple at Guwahati. The Ambubachi festival is related to the Tantric cult and is also known as Kamkhya Devi Puja. Ambubachi Mela is also known as Ameti or Tantric fertility festival. It is closely associated with the Tantric Shakti cult prevalent in eastern parts of India and is famous due to the assembling of Tantric Sadhus from India and abroad.

While paying his obeisance to Mother Shakti, Maa Kamakhya Devi, the Governor has appealed to the organizing committee; the Kamakhya Debottar Board, government authorities, NGOs and all other voluntary organizations involved in the smooth functioning of all activities during the festival and to the devout pilgrims and general public to ensure the maintence of peace, order and discipline during all the days of the festival and also to ensure that the temple premises and all the surrounding areas are kept clean orderly.
