Governor's speech cut short

Guwahati, Feb 1: The four-day session of the Assam Assembly got off to a noisy start today with Opposition parties disrupting the customary Governor's speech. As soon as Governor PB Acharya started to list the achievements of the government, members in the Opposition benches, led by the AIUDF and the AGP, stood up and shouted slogans against the government. The Governor was forced to conclude his speech within three minutes. The speech was then deemed read. The Governor, in his speech, mentioned of creation of new districts and subdivisions, for better administration as well as in keeping with people's demands. He listed the progress made in maintaining law and order situation, including peace initiatives with militant outfits.
