Guwahati bars face heat on New Year eve

Licenses of five suspended

GUWAHATI, Dec 30: Taking note of violation of the Assam Excise Rule of 1945, the Kamrup metropolitan administration has temporarily suspended the licenses of five bar-cum-restaurants. Three other bars were slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each and served notices.

District administration teams had raided most of the bars and restaurants in the city and detected gross violation of the terms laid down in the licenses. The violations mainly included serving alcohol to under-aged persons, serving alcoholic beverages after 10 pm without permission and unhygienic kitchen and toilets etc.

The bar-cum-restaurants whose licenses have been suspended temporarily and will remain closed on New Year Eve include - Kamakazi, Kuber, Mejban, Club DMD and Topaz. On the other hand, Terra Maya, XS Bar and Illusion have been slapped show-cause notices and a fine of Rs 5,000 each.

The team of district administration was led by ADC Rajib Prakash Baruah.

Talking to The Sentinel, Baruah said that the district administration is on high vigil for the New Year Eve and is in a position to tackle any untoward situation. "We are on alert. Nuisance will not be tolerated," Baruah warned.
