Guwahati buildings to be inspected

Guwahati, April 28: Joint teams will conduct inspections in over 30 shopping malls and high rises in Guwahati to assess their vulnerability. “More than 30 shopping malls, schools and high rises of four-storey and above will be covered in the inspection. We will check if the buildings have followed proper disaster magement plan. Necessary action will be taken thereafter,” a district administration official said. Teams will also interact with dwellers of apartments and evaluate their awareness. Besides, the GMDA with assistance from the Assam Engineering College has been conducting an inspection of 400 city buildings which are said to be vulnerable. Official sources said after the vulnerability assessment, steps will be taken to secure them. Buildings may also face punitive action in case of violation of established norms.
