1.52 lakh people in eight districts hit by floods due to incessant rain

Guwahati, July 7: Heavy rains in Assam and adjoining Meghalaya flooded many areas and caused landslides, claiming at least two lives and leaving several others injured.

Two minor siblings were killed in a landslide at 11 Mile in Sopur near Guwahati.

A guard wall caved in on the house of Radha Sharma early today due to landslide triggered by incessant rains since last night.

Radha Sharma's son Vishal (10) and daughter nu (12) were killed on the spot. Radha and her second daughter Puja were injured during the incident.

Four persons were injured in another landslide at Bongaon Pahar at Panikheti in Guwahati. The house of Dilip Barman was damaged in the landslide that occurred at around 8 am.

Meanwhile, the Assam State Disaster Magement Authority said 1.52 lakh people in eight districts have been affected in the floods as on Thursday.

Guwahati on Thursday witnessed unprecedented flooding, with rain waters flooding new areas across the city.

The Brahmaputra along Guwahati crossed the red mark of 49.68 meters, though it subsided towards the evening.

The city received 25.9 mm rainfall since Wednesday night.
