H1N1 scare in armed forces

Guwahati, March 21: The total number of swine flu cases in the State has risen to 22, with the H1N1 virus creating a scare in the armed forces deployed in the State, after detection of positive cases among some personnel. Two CRPF jawans are suspected to have been affected by the virus in Golaghat and have been kept in isolation wards at the Kushal Konwar civil hospital.  Both the jawans of 142 battalion of CRPF have travel histories. One of them has come on transfer from Tamil du and the other was on leave and had visited Delhi. Two army personnel, who also have travel histories, have tested positive for H1N1 in Tezpur and are being treated.

Dr BC Bhagawati of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme said that so far 104 screenings have been conducted, of which 22 have tested positive. The maximum cases (9) have been reported in Kamrup (metro) followed by Dibrugarh (5), Jorhat (4), Sonitpur (3) and Kamrup rural (1). Bhagawati however said the infection is showing a “declining trend.”
