Hailstorm lashes Guwahati, suburbs

GUWAHATI, April 11: A hailstorm lashed Guwahati and outlying areas at around 7 p.m. in the evening on Monday, causing widespread damage by uprooting trees, tearing apart hoardings and spping power lines at many places in the city. Hailstones as large as golf balls and tennis balls were reported, denting vehicle roofs and making people run helter-skelter for cover. Lasting for about half-an-hour, the hailstorm also caused damage to cropfields on the outskirts of the city.
