Guwahati, Aug 2: Onion prices touched Rs 50 a kg in Guwahati on Sunday, even as wholesalers here blamed the phenomenon on "increasing rates at the source." In some markets of the city, retailers were even charging Rs 55 per kg. The prices of the commodity almost doubled in the last ten days. Three days back, onions were sold at Rs 30-35 per kg. The wholesale rates in the city were in the range Rs 36-44 on Sunday. Onions are imported to the State from shik, Pat and Gujarat.
