HC fast tracks drive to clear encroachments

Guwahati, Sept 30: A division bench of Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice (acting) K. Sreedhar Rao and Justice PK Saikia, while hearing the case of illegal encroachment in Kaziranga tiol Park, has directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border), gaon to be present before the court on October 6 and file a compliance report of the court order of July 15.

Contempt action will be initiated against the DSP if he fails to comply with the court orders.

The court has also asked the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat to be present before the court on the day and file an affidavit regarding the steps taken for verification of encroachers in Kaziranga.

On the day same, the gaon Deputy Commissioner will have to explain before the court why encroachers from Bandardubi, Deucchur Chang, Palkhowa villages have not been evicted as per the order.

The division bench has also asked the Commissioner and Secretary of Revenue department to be present before the court and explain the steps taken in compliance with the court order regarding eviction of land patta holders from Kaziranga in its 1st to 6th Additions.
