HC sets deadline for Dispur to fill up FSL vacancies

GUWAHATI, March 26: A division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice Ajit Singh and Justice Manojit Bhuyan has directed Dispur to implement all the suggestions, including filling up vacancies, made by the appointed committee for smooth functioning of the Forensic Science Laboratories in the State within six months and report its compliance to the High Court. The High Court had taken a suo motu PIL (35 of 2016) on the condition of the FSL from a report published in The Sentinel, Guwahati. The high court bench also directed Dispur to ensure that the newly reconstituted the State Forensic Science Development Board (SFSDB) holds at least a meeting in every six months so as to ensure effective functioning of the Laboratories and rendering services in true spirit. Earlier, following a directive from the High Court Dispur had constituted a committee to suggest measures as to how the problems afflicting the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Guwahati and Regiol Forensic Science Laboratory, Jorhat could be solved. The appointed committee did recommend immediate filling up of all the vacant posts in the laboratories, besides reconstitution of the State Forensic Science Development Board, setting up of a forensic science institute in the State, etc.
