Himanta Biswa's wife grilled by CBI

GUWAHATI, February 15: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday grilled former State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam at its Salt Lake office in Kolkata. The interrogation lasted for one hour, sources revealed.

Sources further said that Riniki will be grilled again on Monday by the Enforcement Directorate.

It may be mentioned that the Salt Lake offices of both the CBI and the ED are located in the same building.

The Kolkata office of the ED summoned Riniki, maging director of the city-based Pride East Entertainment Pvt Ltd which owns satellite TV channel NewsLive, in connection with the Saradha case. 

Sources in the Enforcement Directorate’s Guwahati office informed that Riniki was asked to be persolly present at its Kolkata office instead of its Guwahati office, for security reasons.

In a tell-all letter to the CBI, Saradha boss Sudipta Sen had alleged that the television channel took a hefty dotion from his chit fund company to organise the ‘NewsLive Great Guwahati Run’ event held last year.  

In connection with the Saradha scam, Himanta Biswa Sarma was also summoned by the CBI to Kolkata last year.
