Hindi speakers stage protest against ULFA(I)

DIGBOI, July 15: Following the killing of two Hindi speaking people in Bijulijan, under Pengaree Police Station in Tinsukia, various Bhojpuri organizations took on the streets, protesting against the Ulfa-I. The agitators also raised slogans against the police for their alleged failure in providing security to the people.

ndalal Sahu (70) and his 17 year old daughter were killed by suspected Ulfa-I cadres when they open fired at his residence on Tuesday evening. Sahu died on the spot, whereas his daughter died on her way to hospital.

The protest demonstration, turned hostile on Wednesday as the agitators had a tussle with the police, following which the police had to lathicharge.

It needs to be mentioned that, suspecting that the act was allegedly carried out by Ulfa-I, leaders of Bhojpuri organizations have challenged the C-in-C of the rebel outfit, Paresh Baruah to confront the Hindi speaking people or else to stop killing them. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Puru Gupta who visited the spot this morning told The Sentinel that the move for ex-gratia has already been initiated and necessary legal formalities are being carried out. On the other hand, it has been alleged that the Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia district, Arb Deka failed to make it to the crime spot, even after 24 hours of the scene. Deka who succeeded And Prakash Tiwari has been transferred from Tinsukia district. Protesting the killing of Sahu, the Pengaree market remain closed on Wednesday. Various Bhojpuri organizations have also called a 36-hours bandh from July 16.
