Hunt for Siddique

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, April 9: A police team from Karimganj on Thursday conducted a search at the MLA Hostel residence of Congress legislator and former minister Siddique Ahmed, after a local court there ordered his arrest for failing to appear before it despite being served three summons. The summons were issued in connection with a assault case on one Rezaul Karim in 2011. Ahmed was med as the mastermind of the gang which assaulted him.

The Karimganj CJM court had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant.

In its recent order, the court ordered arrest of the MLA and asked Karimganj police to produce him before the court on or before April 10.

On Thursday, a seven-member police team led by Patharkandi police station OC

RP Singh arrived in Guwahati and sought permission from the Speaker to conduct a search in Ahmed’s MLA Hostel cottage (No 40).

The permission was granted on two conditions – the police team will not disturb anyone else and that it will take assistance from the local police.

The police searched Ahmed’s residence, but did not find him.

It is learnt that Ahmed has moved out of the State and is in the process of moving a higher court.
