Improve infrastructure for growth in Northeast: Modi

New Delhi, April 22: Terming infrastructural development as "key" to progress in the northeast India, Prime Minister rendra Modi on Wednesday called to speed up such projects for improved connectivity in the country's east and northeast regions.

Presiding over the second interaction of PRAGATI here, Modi reviewed the progress of key railway projects in West Bengal and Assam as well as the progress of the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway.

He also interacted with Indian ambassadors in Myanmar and Thailand.

PRAGATI, a multi-modal platform that was launched in March, aims to address the common man’s grievances and monitor important programmes and projects to ensure pro-active governce and timely implementation.

“This (PRAGATI) is a means to break the silos between various government agencies that impede decision-making,” the prime minister said, adding that the key objective is to find ways to speed up government processes.

Modi also reviewed the work done for tribal welfare, especially giving land titles under the Forest Rights Act, asking the officials to make use of satellite technology to expedite the process of identifying tribal habitations, an official release said.

Subsequent to review of the public grievances related to LPG distribution, Modi urged the petroleum and tural gas ministry to resolve pending complaints at the earliest, and institute arrangements so that such complaints do not arise.

The public grievances relating to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited customers were also on Modi’s agenda, as he asked the officials to devise a strategy to strengthen its services.

The prime minister reviewed progress of the Green Energy Corridor project, and underlined India’s commitment to global leadership with regard to renewable energy, the statement added. IANS
