Guwahati, Aug 25: DoNER minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Tuesday welcomed the move of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to join the BJP and attacked the Congress for its ‘dystic politics’. Claiming that the BJP was the only tiol party which still upheld interl party democracy, Singh said that Sarma’s intention to join the BJP has once again proved it.

Meanwhile, State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya was given on Tuesday a rousing welcome by party workers on reaching Guwahati. Many political commentators have termed Himanta’s induction into BJP a masterstroke by Bhattacharya.

Talking to mediapersons at LGBI airport upon his arrival, Bhattacharya said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma will strengthen the BJP further. The prospects of the party forming the next government in the State was already bright, but Sarma’s joining is now like an icing on the cake.”

On being asked about BJP’s earlier ‘chargesheet’ against Sarma alleging his involvement in the Louis Berger scam, Bhattacharya said, “I have read the chargesheet of the US court. I am a lawyer myself and I cross-checked it carefully. I didn’t find anything on it which points fingers towards Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.”

When asked if Sarma and his close aides who are likely to join the BJP have laid down any pre-conditions, Bhattacharya said, “We don’t include people in the party with pre-conditions. Let him (Sarma) first join our party on August 28.”
