Irregularities detected in many city bars

GUWAHATI, July 17: A sudden raid by the Kamrup(M) district administration, Excise sleuths and police personnel in various bars and restaurants in the city last night yielded results, finding numerous irregularities in the adherence to the relevant Excise Act by many bars and restaurants.

The raid was conducted following an order from Kamrup(M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu. It was led by Sadar SDO Mukul Kathar, assistant commissioner-cum-election officer Chinmoy Phukan, Guwahati Revenue Circle Officer (attached) Ashvin mpui, Dispur Revenue Circle Officer (attached) Prasantha Kathkotia and Azara Revenue Circle Officer Pulak Patgiri.

The groups split into five teams and they found anomalies in the store register of Beharbari Dhoom Bar, and large-scale anomalies, including in licenses, of Maihang Bar-cum-Restaurant at Survey and Mehfil Bar at Beltola. On the GS Road XS, Café Copa and Teramaya located at Anil Plaza near ABC, Underdog Bar at Central Mall, the Bar of Hotel Gateway Grandeur on GS Road, Topaz at Ulubari and Yo! Chi Bar came under the raid. Many anomalies were found in them during the raid. Many liquor bottles were also seized on the charge of evading tax during the raid. From Café Hendrix Bar near Downtown Hospital a huge quantity of liquor bottles were seized for authorized stocking. Process has already been initiated for taking tern action against the bars. This raid will continue till August.
