Janata Bhawan closed for public as a preventive measure against COVID-19

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: As a preventive measure against COVID-19, the Secretariat Administration (Establishment) Department, Government of Assam, on Wednesday issued a new order totally stopping the issuance of visitors as well as e-passes to the Janata Bhawan complex till March 31, 2020. The order has come into force with immediate effect. However for any urgent communication, visitors have been advised to contact the officers concerned over phone or email.

These decisions have been taken after it came to the notice of the authorities that several hundreds of people, and that too in close proximity, were queuing for the visitors’ passes during the morning hours. At one point of time, even the State Minister for Health had to come out for convincing the people not to make any rush. He also pointed out that only 100 persons would be allowed to apply for the passes at the counter. Earlier on Monday, entry into the Janata Bhawan had been restricted to only 100 persons.

In another order, the Department also prohibited the entry of daily visitors to the Ministers’ Colony till March 31. The Private Secretaries of Ministers have been requested to issue passes to the visitors only after obtaining permission from the respective Ministers.

Meanwhile Health department officials, in a number of awareness campaigns within Janata Bhawan during the day, asked the Secretariat employees to be on the alert and inform the administration of any suspected coronavirus symptoms among anyone.
