Rongmongwe/gaon (Haiborgaon), Aug 13:  After the ULFA terror strike in Tinsukia, suspected KPLT militants on Friday night killed a policeman at Rongmongwe under Rongmongwe police station of Karbi Anglong district.

Sources said, on Friday night a group of suspected KPLT militants opened fire at the Rongmongwe police station and ran away. Two police personnel of 11 APBN were injured and were rushed to the nearest Jokholabondha hospital for treatment. But FRU doctor declared one of the personnel, Ratul Gogoi, dead. The other, Prabjyoti Deka, who was critically injured, was referred to GMCH.

According to sources, police suspect it to be an attack by Karbi militants, likely belonging to the KPLT. However, Assam Police DGP Mukesh Sahai hinted that it might be a fallout of conflict among the constables in the PS, in which total 12 constables and their officer-in-command were present.

Sahai on Saturday morning rushed to the spot with DIG, middle Assam Zone, Akhilesh Sing Yadav and SP Karbi-Anglong district, Debajit Deori accompanying him.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, KPLT is said to have admitted responsibility of the Rongmongwe attack.
