DIBRUGARH, May 1: A Class XII student of the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dibrugarh committed suicide, sparking a sensation in the institution where students staged a protest against the headmaster accusing him of harassment.

Rahul Ujir committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence at Bokel under Lahowal Police Station yesterday.

He had failed in his CBSE Class XI examition.

His classmates alleged that the headmaster of the school mentally harassed Rahul for getting poor marks in the last examition. They claimed that Rahul committed suicide as a result of the mental torture meted out to him.

The angry students staged a demonstration in the school on Friday and demanded immediate transfer of headmaster.

Rahul’s father Bulbul Ujir has lodged an FIR at Lahowal police station. “We have lodged a case under section 306 of the IPC (abetment to suicide). Investigating will be conducted,” the officer in charge of Lahowal police station said.

However, the headmaster denied the allegation even as he expressed grief over the demise of Rahul.
