Late SI Bhaskar Kalita Awarded Police Medal For Gallantry

GUWAHATI: SI Late Bhaskar Kalita of Assam has been named for receiving police medal for gallantry posthumously, and 12 other police personnel of the State have been named for receiving police medals for meritorious service. Three other personnel have been named for receiving fire service medals for meritorious service. Yet ten other police personnel of the State have been named for receiving Chief Minister’s police medals for outstanding service.

Late SI Bhaskar Kalita, the then OC of Bordumsa police station, had been killed in an encounter on May 4, 2018. His killing did stir up a row in the State over the efficacy of bulletproof jackets being used by the State police personnel.

The announcement has come on the eve of the 73rd Independence Day.

The 12 personnel named for police medals for meritorious service are DCP (security and intelligence in Guwahati Police Commissionerate) Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa, DSP (HQ, CID) Dwijen Chandra Das, BI(EO) inspector (UB) Prafulla Barman, Dergaon Police Training College SI (AB) K Basanta Singha, Goalpara DEF ASI Apurba Sarma, Panchgram Police Station ASI (UB) Muzharul Islam Laskar, Sadiya DEF head constable Manab Sonowal, Naik Rantu Kumar Gogoi, Tinsukia DEF constable (AB) Kripasindhu Purkayastha, constable (AB) Abani Kumar Chakraborty, constable (UB) Moheswar Sonowal and CID constable (UB) Utpal Jyoti Deka.

The three fire servicemen named for medals for meritorious service are sub-officer Kuleswar Teron, leading fireman Promod Talukdar and havildar (SDRF) Prasanna Teron.

The ten police personnel named for CM’s police medals for outstanding service are Assistant IGP (administration, headquarters) Rafiul Alam  Laskar, Bijni SDPO Prakash Medhi, Fire & Emergency Service, Guwahati divisional officer (East) Mukunda Murari Mahanta, Dergaon Armed Police Training Centre inspector (AB) Bachan Singh, Goalpara DEF SI (UB) Md. Emdadul Hussain, Dima Hasao DEF SI (UB) Rudra Kanta Bordoloi, SB Kahilipara SI (UB) Debojit Kumar Bori, Guwahati Police Commionerate SI (UB) Abhisekh Bodo, Goalpara DEF SI (UB) Sabir Ali and Golaghat DEF UBC Rupam Kumar Dihingia.
