Mahanta, AASU hit back at Gogoi

'Even former PM rasimha Rao had an RSS background… why didn't Gogoi protest then?'

Guwahati, April 17: Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, who had led the Assam Agitation, and the present AASU leadership today came down heavily on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for claiming that the six-year historic agitation was sponsored by the RSS.

Both Mahanta and AASU’s chief advisor Sammujal Bhattacharya insisted that Gogoi is suffering from “depression” and has “lost his mental balance.”

“At that time, everyone knew that the agitation was possible only because of the support and dotions from the local people. If the Chief Minister is not aware about this, it is very unfortute,” Mahanta told The Sentinel.

He said the agitation had received support from various student organizations of the country.

“What the Chief Minister has claimed is baseless. Even former PM rasimha Rao had an RSS background… why didn’t Gogoi protest then?” Mahanta asked, stating that Gogoi has shown disrespect to the 855 martyrs of the agitation by making such a statement.

Mahanta also alleged that the 855 youths had fallen to bullets of Congressmen.

AASU’s chief advisor Sammujal Bhattacharya said the Assam Agitation was launched to free the State from illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

“People, cutting across all lines, had participated in the agitation. The people were patrons of the agitation,” he said.

Gogoi had yesterday claimed that the six-year long agitation was initially launched against all outsiders, but was later modified to oppose only Bangladeshi infiltrators “just to suit the RSS”.
