Maid who looted house leaving family members unconscious held

GUWAHATI, April 25: A house maid who decamped with some cash and jewellery from the house of the owner after making them unconscious by mixing something intoxicating with their drinks on the night of April 22 at Lachit gar in the city was arrested by the police from Tarabari under Gauripur police station in Dhubri district yesterday.

According to the confessiol statement given before the police by the maid, Maleka Bibi (42) who identified herself as Suman Rajbongshi to her house owner, she had planned to loot the house with two youth accomplices. It was so planned that she would mix a substance given by the two youths with the food of the family members at night, and when they would fall unconscious the two youths and she would decamp by looting the house, the police said. “Things, however, didn’t happen as planned. The woman did mix the substance with the food of the family members who fell unconscious. However, the two accomplices failed to turn up on time as they came face to face with a police patrol party. She was informed by the accomplices of their failure to come as planned. The panicked maid then had to decamp with whatever she got,” the police said, and added that she went to Maligaon and hid in the houses of her kin.

House owner Ranjit Bora, his wife, a daughter and Bora’s driver were left unconscious by the women. She decamped with Rs 1,500 in cash, a pair of ear rings and a pair of bangle while fleeing.

A photograph of the woman that was clicked in the mobile handset of Bora’s daughter helped the police to find out the woman. Before fleeing she washed all the utensil of the family as though to erase all clues relating to feeding the family members the intoxicating substance.
