Minister Chandan Sarkar has six SC certificates, all fake: APW

Guwahati, February 5: Chandan Sarkar, who was elevated to the rank of a cabinet minister recently, has six Scheduled Caste certificates and all of them are fake, the Assam Public Works claimed today, producing the certificates issued by “authorities not competent to do so”.

Training his guns on the Abhayapuri South legislator, APW president Abhijeet Sharma said the certificates were purportedly issued by Chakla Lower Primary School principal (in 1968), Chakla HS School principal (in 1978), the EAC of North Salmara and one by the district magistrate of Bongaigaon.

“All those who gave him the certificates are not competent to issue them. There is a criterion to be followed, and only a Deputy Commissioner can issue such a certificate,” Sharma said.

According to the documents produced by APW, Sarkar’s father had availed of an SC certificate from the then South Salmara MLA Ratneshwar Sarkar in 1988.

The mes of Sarkar’s family members, including Chandan Sarkar himself, were enlisted in the voters list of Falakata constituency of West Bengal in 1988. “West Bengal government recognizes the family as general caste. His (Chandan Sarkar’s) uncle Jagadish Sarkar, brother ndan Sarkar… all belong to the general caste. How can Chandan Sarkar then be from the SC community? He got the berth in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet through fraudulent means,” Sharma alleged, contending that Sarkar was included in the Gogoi ministry to represent the SC community.

The APW also accused senior minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman of settling illegal migrants in various places in Guwahati and lbari during his previous tenure as Revenue minister.
