Miscreant attempts to assault woman sexually in GMCH, lands in jail

GUWAHATI, May 19: How secured are women in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)? It seems that the GMCH authority has all along been lulling the patients into a false sense of security even as its security apparatus in the hospital campus is quite porous.

Many an eyebrow has been raised with the report that an inebriated youth, Chanpak Bayan, hailing from Mukalmua in lbari district, made an attempt to sexually assault a woman in front of the Obstetrics Department in the hospital last night. However, the woman was rescued by some of the brave women, who are patients, from the clutch of the youth. The women patients caught hold of the youth and handed him over to the police. The police arrested the youth.

What left every right-thinking people thinking is: how come the miscreant entered the Obstetrics Department of the hospital at night when each and every entrance to the hospital has been manned by security personnel? Are they security personnel true to the sense? Are they just lulling the patients into a false sense of security? 

Meanwhile, the police registered a case (94/15) in the GMCH police station and produced him before the court today. The court sent the miscreant to judicial remand.

What is even surprising is that the GMCH authorities are quite oblivious of the unwanted incident that occurred last night in the hospital even today. When this reporter asked the authorities in this connection, they said that he was quite oblivious of the incident.

There have been reports that miscreants have the run of the hospital where they even indulge in taking blood from donors fraudulently. There are also reports of antisocial elements becoming active on the hospital premises.
