Modi government anti-farmer, making U-turns: AICC

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 22: Coming down heavily on the BJP government at the Centre, All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesman Sanjoy Nirupam has accused the rendra Modi government of being anti-farmers and anti-poor.

Addressing reporters here on Friday, Nirupam said, “The Modi government is a ‘suit boot ki sarkar’. Before the Lok Sabha elections, Modi said farmers will get minimum support price for their produce with 50 per cent profit margin, but now farmers are not even getting the minimum support price. Due to early rains, 200 lakh acres of agricultural land throughout the country have been damaged, as a result of which, many farmers have committed suicide, but the Modi government hasn’t done anything so far to help farmers.”

Nirupam was taking part in the press meet here as part of the AICC’s media campaign all over the country to expose the misrule of the Modi government.

On the BJP government’s decision to amend the Land Acquisition Bill, Nirupam said, “In the UPA days, the Land Acquisition Bill was passed in Parliament and the then NDA even supported it. But I don’t know under what compulsion, the present Central government is trying to amend the very bill. In the earlier bill, there was a clause which stated that a plot of agricultural land cannot be acquired without the consent of its owner, but that clause has been removed by the Modi government,” adding, “The present Land Acquisition Ordince brought by the Modi government should be cancelled.”

On the issue of fund cut by the present Central government, the AICC spokesman said, “The reduction of Central fund share for many welfare schemes, including MGNREGA, has hit the development of rural areas in the country.”

Nirupam also expressed serious concern over the release of dreaded terrorist leader Masarat Alam by the J&K government in which the BJP is a part. “During the UPA days, terrorists like Ajmal Kasab and Afjal Guru were hanged for their crimes but the present Central government freed Alam, jeopardizing tiol security,” he added.

Criticizing the Modi government on the passing of the land swap deal in Parliament, Nirupam said, “Why did the BJP oppose the passing of the deal when the UPA government brought it in Parliament? It’s a U-turn by the Modi government.”

Saying that rendra Modi is the only ‘turup ka patta’ in the BJP, the AICC spokesman said, “Since it came to power, the BJP government at the Centre has made U-turns on 117 crucial issues.”
