Modi phobia haunts Tarun Gogoi

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 27: It seems, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is suffering from a phobia. At each and every press meet, Gogoi raises Modi’s achche din slogan and puts the blame on the latter for the lack of development in Assam.

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Gogoi said, “Before the Lok Sabha elections, rendra Modi won the sympathy and trust of people but in return what he has given to people in the last one year.”

Gogoi said, “Before elections, the BJP was completely against construction of big dams in the region and talked strongly in support of deporting all illegal tiols living in Assam. But after the party came to power at the Centre, it has taken a U-turn on these issues. On big dam, the BJP is yet to clear its stand.”

“After winning the Lok Sabha polls, Modi didn’t talk about border fencing and illegal migrants,” he added.

The Chief Minister said, “After Modi came to power, many Central ministers are visiting Assam at regular intervals but I am sure that less number of Central ministers will visit the State after the 2016 Assembly elections. These Central ministers are visiting the State for making false promises.” On the withdrawal of special category status accorded to the northeastern States, including Assam, Gogoi said, “Where is the achche din for Assam? Due to withdrawal of special category status and cut in Central funding for different welfare schemes/projects in the State, people engaged with these projects will not get their salaries in the coming months, if the situation remains the same,” adding, “Development of the State will be hit if the funds meant for development works need to be diverted for other purposes.”

On the black money issue, the Chief Minister said, “Before elections, Modi promised that black money stashed abroad would be returned back to India within one year. What has happened to that promise?” adding, “Some big businessmen, who have their money stashed in foreign banks, are only praising Modi now.”
