Modi promised much, delivered nothing: Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Jan 19: Smarting from the salvos fired by Prime Minister rendra Modi at the Congress during his one-day Assam visit, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hit back immediately afterwards, saying that he is ready to give details of accounts of funds spent by his government, but the BJP government at the Centre should also come clean with the 8 years track record of the Vajpayee-led government.

Prime Minister Modi had said during his speeches at Kokrajhar and Guwahati that the Centre will ask for accounts of each penny given to the States.

"I am ready to give the accounts, but first you go and ask for the account details from Himanta," Gogoi said, hitting out at the BJP and the Prime Minister.

"You are unhappy because we asked you questions, why don't you answer them? We are ready to give all account details of 15 years of Congress rule in Assam and what Assam got in 10 years of UPA rule under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh, but first you table the accounts of 8-years of BJP rule," Gogoi said. The Chief Minister also said that he will table the details by next month if the BJP tables the same.

Gogoi also slammed Modi over his comment on capacity of Assam to generate electricity to power entire India and said, "The Union leaders come to the State, but they don't study the facts. Modi today said that Assam has so much water resources that the electricity generated here can power entire India. He is not aware that the waters of Assam cannot generate so much electricity. He is not even aware of the available resources."

The Chief Minister also handed over a letter to the Prime Minister and reminded him about a memorandum submitted on December 16, pressing for restoration of special status to the State and other demands.
