CASH-FOR-JOB SCAM IN APSC

BY Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, Sept 10: Even as three ACS officials have been dismissed from service, many more are likely to face the heat for alleged involvement in the cash-for-job scam in Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

Smelling a rat, police had obtained samples of sigtures of 25 ACS, APS and other allied services officials on June 9 this year and sent these to five forensic laboratories located in different parts of the country, along with the sigtures of these officials available on their answer scripts seized from the APSC’s strong room. The purpose of the exercise was to see whether both the sigtures matched or not.

Sources informed The Sentinel that reports from three forensic laboratories have already come in. And, if the sources are to be believed, many more ACS, APS and other allied services officials are likely to face the music as their sigtures apparently don’t match.

The sources further said the investigation is likely to regain pace after the current Assembly session is over and once the fil reports come in from all the five forensic laboratories.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay told reporters here on Sunday that reports from some forensic laboratories have come in. “We will proceed with the case once the complete report comes in after obtaining court’s permission,” he remarked.

It may be mentioned that the cash-for-job scam in the APSC that first rocked the State last year has already cost Chairman Rakesh Paul and two other members Samedur Rahman and Basanta Doley their posts. The trio was subsequently arrested. While Paul is still incarcerated, Rahman and Doley maged to obtain bails a few days back.
