Move for Indian citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis: Clash likely if need be, says AJYCP

GUWAHATI, Oct 13: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has been enraged at the direction which the issue of ‘according Indian citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis’ is heading for.

The Parishad is skeptical of the State Government’s stand on the issue, and the strategy being given to its shape by a section of Bengali organizations to push the issue forward.

AJYCP president Putul Dutta and general secretary Palash Changmai have said that the State Government’s move to rehabilitate Hindu Bangladshis putting a question mark on the survival of the indigenous people of Assam will remain as the worst-ever betrayal in the annals of history. And for such a betrayal, the Assamese nationality will never forgive the State Government being led by Sarbananda Sonowal, they said.

“A number of ministers and MLAs of the present government at Dispur did speak of jaati, maati and bheti before the election. However, after coming to power, they are standing just at the opposite pole and engaged themselves to spell doom for the Assamese nationality,” Changmai said, and added: “It’s unfortunate that the State BJP has adopted a resolution in its recently held executive meeting in favour of rehabilitation of Hindu Bangladeshis. What’s even more shocking is the strategy being worked out by some organizations comprising a section of people of suspected identity to start an agitation for their rehabilitation in the State. It’s the final stage of the Bill, and if it is not nipped now, it will spell the future of Assam doom. With this in mind, we appeal to all Assamese to take to the streets, regardless caste and creed, to foil the anti-Assam design.”

The duo has said that the Parishad will not hesitate to go for direct clashes against those organizations which are agile enough to ensure Indian citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis, as and when the need arises.
