Movement against CAB worries parents of CBSE, AHSEC & SEBA examinees

GUWAHATI: Parents of examinees appearing for the final examinations of Classes X & XII under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have expressed concern over the ongoing strikes against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in the State.

The CBSE’s Class-XII examination is scheduled to commence from February 15 and will conclude on April 3. The Class-X examination will be conducted from February 21 to March 29.

“Both my son and daughter are appearing for the CBSE final examinations. But I am really worried over the ongoing agitation against the Citizenship Bill as it might jeopardize the exam schedules. Since the CBSE examinations will be held across India, the central board may not take any alternative plan to compensate Assam’s examinees in case of any disruption in the exam schedules in the State due to the ongoing agitation,” Dr Siddhartha Sarma, a city resident said.

Dr Sarma is not alone. Majority of parents have expressed similar concern and many of them have already approached the office of Guwahati Region of CBSE to discuss the issue with the Board officials.

An official of CBSE when contacted said that “concern and fear of parents are natural in view of the ongoing strikes against the Bill. However, it will be very tough to reschedule the examinations dates. We appeal to the protestors to give priority on smooth conduct of the examinations,” the official said.

On the other hand, the Class-XII final examinations under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) commenced on Tuesday across the State. The AHSEC has already appealed to various organizations spearheading the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill to refrain from giving bandh calls and agitation during the exams dates. The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will conduct the HSLC exams from February 14 to March 6. The SEBA has also appealed the protestors to cooperate with the board in smooth conduct of the exams for greater interest of students. Parents of examinees of AHSEC and SEBA have also expressed concern over the ongoing stir against the Citizenship Bill.
