MP team takes stocks of centrally-funded projects

GUWAHATI, May 25: In its marathon field visit to Assam today, a 13-MP parliamentary committee took stock of a number of Centrally-funded projects and schemes in Guwahati and held meetings with Central Government departments and agencies, trade and commerce bodies and the Assam Chief Secretary.

The MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha led by P Bhattacharjee as the chairman are on a five-day visit to Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur to take stock of centrally-funded projects.

The team today visited the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), B Barooah Cancer Institute, Assam Institute of Magement and Shankaradeva Nethralaya and took stock of the situation and reviewed the progress of works. The authorities in all these agencies and institutions also submitted memoranda to the parliamentary committee stating problems afflicting them.

After the field visit, the committee had meetings with representatives of the NEC, DoNER, Northeast Fince Development Corporation, Northeast Regiol Agriculture Marketing Corporation and Northeast Handloom and Textiles Development Corporation. All these agencies and departments let the parliamentary committee know the kind of works they have been doing.

The committee then held meetings with leaders of the FICCI, the CII and the Federation of Industries and Commerce of the North Eastern Region. The committee also held a meeting with State Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla on infrastructure development in the state.
