Two rebels gunned down by army in Chirang

Kokrajhar/ Guwahati, Aug 29: In a major success, Kokrajhar police arrested the self-styled deputy commander-in-chief (c-in-c) of the NDFB-S, identified as Dwiswrang Daimary alias Dhanjay, from Sesapani forest area in Kokrajhar district on Saturday.

BTAD IGP LR Bishnoi told media persons in Kokrajhar that acting on a specific input, Kokrajhar police lead by superintendent of police Shyamal Prasad Saikia carried out an operation and apprehended the senior NDFB-S rebel this morning. Bishnoi said Dwiswrang is a 26th batch cadre of the banned outfit. He said five 36-hand gredes, 100 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition and a mobile hand set along with two SIM cards were recovered from his possession.

Kokrajhar SP Shyamal Prasad Saikia said the rebel was planning subversive activities in Kokrajhar. He said the arrested rebel was involved in the killing of school girl Priya Basumatary in Chirang last year. He was also involved in the Adivasi carge of December 23, 2014 in which over 80 people were gunned down by the militants.

Bishnoi said since January 2015, a total of 15 NDFB-S rebels were killed and 204 arrested. A total of 142 over ground workers of NDFB-S were arrested.

He also said that apart from the NDFB-S, 43 rebels belonging to various groups like KLO, NSLA, RVA were arrested this year so far. He also informed that 21 AK series rifles, two M-16 rifles, one HK, one INSAS rifle, two .303 rifles, two .315 rifles, 126 pistols, 3,684 live ammunition, 146 gredes, 82 kg of explosives, two IEDs, two vehicles and 10 bikes were recovered from the militants.

Meanwhile, in a joint operation, the army and police gunned down two hardcore NDFB (S) militants in a gunfight at Chirang. They were identified as Gwndai and Jwanthi, both top leaders of the banned group, defence spokesman Lt Col Suneet Newton said.

The duo were also involved in the December 23 carge and were a part of the core group of Bidai, Newton said.

They were also part of the group which killed Priya Basumatary on August 20 last year suspecting her to be an informer.

One M16 rifle along with magazines, an AK 47 rifle with magazines and one pistol were recovered from them along with a huge quantity of ammunition and other war-like stores.
