Guwahati, Sept 25: In a major success, security forces bbed the self-styled commander-in-chief of the NDFB(S) Rabi Basumatary alias Rongjabaja at Panbari bordering Chirang and Baksa district on Friday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Indian Army, Assam Police and the SSB launched an operation near the Hakua river at Panbari. During the operation, the security forces caught Rongjabaja and his PSO identified as Jwnglaw rzary.
One AK 56 rifle, 170 rounds of AK ammunition, 50 rounds of INSAS ammunition and four hand gredes were recovered from them. Rongjabaja was involved in the killing of ryan Barman, the then in-charge of Rupsi outpost on September 26, 2013. Earlier the outfit's 3rd battalion commander, Rongjabaja was elevated as the commander-in-chief of the Bodo rebel group in October last.
It may be recalled that Lt Gen Sarath Chand, the General Officer Commanding of Gajraj Corps in a joint press briefing along with Assam DGP Khagen Sarma recently at Chirang had stated that the security forces have launched an operation to elimite the remnts of the NDFB(S).
